Anastassya Angelova is a writer/director born and raised in Warsaw, Poland to Bulgarian expatriates.
She was interested in visual arts from a young age, when she completed a photography course at the Warsaw School of Photography and Graphic Design. After finishing high school, she went on to study film at King's College London. She completed numerous internships on film sets in Poland and Bulgaria. After graduating, she moved to Prague to study MA directing in FAMU. Her films often explore the coming-of-age of children and adolescents as they navigate their environments and confront adult problems, particularly those shaped by gender-based discrimination. Her graduation short film “Driving Lesson”, premiered at Sarajevo Film Festival in 2025, and is still touring festivals both in Europe and Asia.
She is now based in Heidelberg, Germany and is developing her debut feature film, as well as pursuing a PhD in film and culture studies at Heidelberg University.
